Clarence White's fuzz with the Byrds came from a one-off distortion box built by Orville "Red" Rhodes. Lover of the Bayou, from the 1970 album Untitled, is the clearest recorded example.

## Reconstruction note

Premier Guitar's oral history quotes bandmate Gene Parsons on White's amplifiers, Leslie cabinet and custom Red Rhodes distortion unit, and states that White relied on the pedal for fuzz. Guitar World independently identifies fuzz as part of White's recorded vocabulary. No dependable photograph, control layout or cable trace for the stolen custom unit has been located, so its artwork is explicitly neutral and its position is limited to a one-device core path. The Leslie is not inserted into this diagram because the surviving account describes its stereo miking and speeds but not its switching relationship to the fuzz.
