Zoot Horn RolloGuitar Rig, 1968
Bill Harkleroad, Zoot Horn Rollo, says his Magic Band path used no effects pedals. The changing amplifiers and his modified guitars made the sound.
Magic Band no-effects path
Documented equipment · Documented order · Not applicable
When Diskant asked Harkleroad directly whether he used effects pedals during the Magic Band years, he answered 'No FX pedals' and named Fender Dual Showman, Ampeg VT-22, Acoustic 6x10 and a custom amplifier among the backline he encountered. The same interview documents the modified Telecaster and ES-125/ES-330 guitars, while Harkleroad's later Hit Channel interview anchors his work on Trout Mask Replica, Lick My Decals Off, Baby and Clear Spot and recalls the 1972 touring unit. Because the amplifier was not constant, this entry deliberately covers his June 1968 to 1974 tenure instead of attaching one amp to every show. Studio processing and microphone chains are outside this artist-controlled direct path.
