Custom switching divides Johnson's guitar into stereo clean, dirty-rhythm and Marshall lead paths, each with its own deliberately small effect vocabulary.

Premier Guitar visually documents the restored Ah Via Musicom boards and assigns the Memory Man to clean rhythm, TS808/Fuzz Face/Flanger-Doubler to the Two-Rock rhythm amp, and Cry Baby/Echoplex preamp/Tube Driver to the Marshall lead amp. Johnson independently describes the same clean, dirty and lead assignments to Musician's Friend, while MusicRadar confirms the Tube Screamer-into-Fuzz Face order. The archive groups those branches into one readable view; it does not imply a single serial chain. Custom amp selectors, the second modified Echoplex and rack delays are documented but omitted because their exact insertion points were not fully published.
